Somerset Hills Learning Institute – Director, Cinematographer

Shooting a dozen interview in one small room and making each of them look unique and intimate.

We interviewed parents and teachers of autistic children at Somerset Hills Learning Institute. The parents requested that they prefer to be interviewed in a secluded area where they felt safe to talk about the challenges they’ve had raising their autistic sons and daughters. Except for the two families that offered us their homes, we were asked to shoot the interviews in one small room, which did not give us many options for positions and angles for cameras and lights. I wanted to make this documentary emotionally intimate as much as possible and gave myself a task to change the setup for each subject. The video was praised by the board of the school as well as the attendees of the gala event and helped fundraise for the specialized education.
